McLaren At 50

McLaren Racing,

50 years old!

You have to admit,

Their impact on formula one has being pretty bold!

From Bruce McLaren’s entrance,

In the year of 1963.

The team have built

Quite an incredible history!

12 driver championships,

Hunt, Senna, and Hamilton to name a few!

Oh, and don’t forget,

Their 8 constructor titles too!

McLaren’s winning ways however,

Started in Can-Am racing.

They began to dominate the series, but

Bruce wanted more of the success he was tasting.

So McLaren Racing entered Formula One,

At the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix.

Bruce and the team got their first win two years later,

And the youngest winner of a race he would be.

Sadly though the win was to be his last,

In 1970 Bruce was killed at Goodwood, aged 32.

Teddy Mayer now found himself,

In charge of the McLaren crew.

In 1974 Emerson Fittipaldi

Got McLaren their first drivers title.

James Hunt took the crown in ’76,

Proving that every point is vital!

The 80s arrived,

Ron Dennis took over the team.

An era of success began,

And along came a new colour scheme.

6 championships were won,

Between Senna and Prost.

In 7 years,

Not many races were to be lost.

In ’98 and ‘99

McLaren and Hakkinen won twice in a row.

McLaren then had to wait till 2008 for another title,

When Lewis Hamilton came along and put on a show.

With Hamilton and Button,

Victories still came.

And, although 2013 has been a struggle,

Remember to stay proud of your history and name.

Bruce would be proud of the endless ‘Will To Win’

His team have shown.

As the great man himself once said,

"Life is measured in achievement, not in years alone…"
